In September of this year, wildlife photographer and Nikon Owner subscriber Chris Weston is undertaking to cycle the route of the 2011 Tour de France bike race, covering a total of 2,131 miles over 23 Pyrenean and Alpine summits, in aid of the conservation charity Animals on the Edge.

To help reach the £21,310 fundraising goal, Chris, in conjunction with Nikon Owner, is running a special Rare Raptors Photographic Workshop at the English School of Falconry, near Bedford on Saturday 27th August. All proceeds from the workshop are being donated to the charity.

Highlights

The Day’s Events

The day begins with a 2-hour session photographing various birds of prey in natural, static settings, in the nearby woodland. As well as ivy-covered tree stumps, mossy rocks and natural perches, there will also be a selection of props, such as a mock thatch, that can be used to create realistic and imaginative images.

The afternoon will continue with a further 2-hour session photographing birds in free flight, including the impressive and majestic flight of the Eagle. During this session you will have ample opportunity to capture images from a range of angles using trusted techniques.

During both sessions, professional wildlife photographer Chris Weston will be on hand to pass on his knowledge and expertise in capturing compelling wildlife images, making sure you capture the images you’ve come to get.

After the two photographic sessions, Chris will give a presentation about the work of the charity Animals on the Edge, including many of his stories from the field during his time working on the book of the same name.

To conclude the day, there is a complimentary barbecue with drinks, where you will have time to socialize and talk to Chris about his photography and his challenging charity cycle ride.

It is a large photographic print of a part of this planet that Michael has a great love for.

“Some years ago, I rented a helicopter and went from Kathmandu, Nepal to Mt. Everest Base camp. I had tea with the Lamas at the highest monastery there and saw the mountain of my dreams and took images. As we turned back down valley to return to Kathmandu I saw the most spectacular blue distant huge mountain ridges in the distance that we would be passing and I shot from the Heli. The combination of our altitude (18,000 feet) and the clear day cause the color temperature to go very blue to the eye and on the film negative.

The result was a view of the Everest Valley we never see.” – Michael Doven, www.michaeldoven.com

This is a fine art Giclee print on Museum matt Archival Hahnemuhle paper.

Shot with a Mamiya 7 on film, from Helicopter near Everest.

30”wide by 24” high, EVEREST VALLEY, 3 of 5

Last year his CENTRAL PARK print sold at this same auction and also sold again that week elsewhere for $9,500.
