A giant Nikon lens that went on sale for £100,000 has found a buyer, Amateur Photographer can reveal.
Fisheye 6mm f/2.8
The rare Fisheye-Nikkor 6mm f/2.8 has caused an internet sensation since its discovery was first reported by Amateur Photographer on Monday.
‘There has been an extraordinary amount of interest… The response has been incredible and keeps on going,’ said Gray Levett, co-founder of Grays of Westminster, the London store which sourced the lens overseas a few weeks ago.
Speaking today, Levett revealed that the photographic gem has been sold to an unnamed ‘private collector’ for the full £100,000 asking price.
Credited as the world’s most extreme wideangle lens to cover the 24x36mm image area, the Fisheye-Nikkor 6mm f/2.8 was unveiled at the Photokina trade show in Cologne, Germany in 1970.
It is believed to be one of only a few hundred ever made.

With which model of Nikon will this lens work?
The lens has an AI (Automatic Aperture Indexing) Nikon F bayonet mount which means in essence that it will fit any Nikon SLR or DSLR camera. However, depending on which model you use in some cases metering may not be available.
but now we can’t see it any more when we visit the shop 🙁
I hope it’s getting some use and not just sitting in a collection 🙂 Maybe we’ll see some interesting images cropping up this summer ! (fingers crossed)
