Somerset House, London, UK

For the first time in a conceivably long time we had the great fortune of experiencing a world wide launch for a new Nikon product over here in the UK. The last time we were able to experience an event like this was several years ago, and against the backdrop of Photo London, the UK’s prestigious fine art photography fair held once a year at Somerset House, quite a grand affair it was too.
Nikon’s workshops and exhibition were combined in the basement gallery at the centre of Somerset House, and there, along with a hundred or so other media and press photography folk, the Z8 was finally launched at 1pm BST.

As the Nikon literature states: ‘The Z 8 brings the feature set of the Z 9 to a body that is 30% smaller than the Z 9 and 15% smaller than the D850. The 45 MP stacked CMOS sensor and impressive dynamic range. The phenomenal deep-learning AF system, and a subject- and eye-detection hit rate you can rely on. The blackout-free Real-Live Viewfinder and 4-axis tilting monitor. Video, stills, or both. You have the freedom to innovate while the Z 8 reliably nails every frame.’

With its 45.7 megapixels, 120fps maximum frame rate, and all the video capabilities one would expect in a top-end Nikon body, the specifications rival that of the competitors as well as featuring all of the technology that we have currently come to expect in the Flagship Nikon Z9. All of that clever autofocus capability is included too.

It’s also competitively priced at £3999 in the UK (including VAT), and with an optional MB-N12 battery grip for extended battery life at just £349.

The day was followed by workshops and experiences that allowed photographers to really test the camera out in a variety of situations, and we were fortunate enough to be able to stream our first impressions live to our YouTube channel.

We are now taking pre-orders, so if you want to get your hands on a Nikon Z8 sooner rather than later, visit our online shop today or give us a call!
